Building a Practice While Earning Her Doctorate

When Stacy (name changed for privacy) and I first started working together, she was a nurse practitioner with an ambitious vision.

She wanted to launch her own women's health and hormone optimization practice, earn her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), and leave her full-time job, all within a matter of months.

For many people, that would sound unrealistic.

She saw it as a challenge worth pursuing.

We began working together in February with a clear plan, actionable goals, and weekly accountability.

Throughout our coaching, she balanced a full-time career, the demands of her DNP program, and family life as a wife and mother. Despite everything on her plate, she stayed committed to taking consistent action every single week.

One of my favorite moments happened just before our final coaching session. She had quietly launched her practice the day before our last call, and hadn't even told me! I was thrilled. Watching her turn months of planning into a reality was incredibly rewarding.

By the time our coaching concluded, she had accomplished every major goal she had set for herself.

She successfully opened her women's health and hormone optimization practice outside of Columbus, Ohio, graduated with her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, and confidently transitioned out of her full-time hospital position.

Her story is a powerful reminder that extraordinary progress happens when you combine a clear strategy with consistent action. She didn't wait until life was less busy. She built the business she envisioned while balancing school, work, and family, and proved that with the right support, ambitious goals can become reality.

Highlights

  • Launched a women's health and hormone optimization practice in Ohio

  • Earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

  • Transitioned out of her full-time nurse practitioner position

  • Balanced entrepreneurship while completing graduate school and raising a family

  • Achieved all of this within approximately 90 days of coaching

Turning Careful Planning into a Confident Launch

When Janie and Steve (names changed for privacy) came to coaching, they already invested hours preparing to open their practice. Janie, an experienced nurse practitioner in Northern California, built a loyal patient following through her work in primary care. With her husband, Steve, they envisioned creating a cash-based Direct Primary Care and Functional Medicine practice that would provide personalized, healthcare.

Like many entrepreneurs, they weren't lacking motivation, they were navigating uncertainty.

California has unique regulations for nurse practitioner-owned practices, so they needed to establish the appropriate business structure, secure physician oversight, and ensure every legal and operational detail was in place before opening their doors. They had done an incredible amount of research and preparation before we ever met, including developing comprehensive policies, procedures, and patient consent forms.

My role became helping them bridge the gap between planning and launching.

We refined their business strategy, talked through important operational decisions, and worked extensively on mindset, especially overcoming the fear and anxiety that often comes with opening a healthcare practice. Rather than rushing into a grand opening before they felt ready, we developed a phased launch strategy that allowed Janie to begin caring for existing patients through telehealth while preparing for a larger public launch.

Instead of letting fear dictate their timeline, they created a thoughtful, strategic plan that built confidence while maintaining momentum.

Today, they are preparing to fully launch their brick-and-mortar Direct Primary Care and Functional Medicine practice, offering both in-person and telehealth services to patients seeking a more personalized approach to healthcare.

Their story is a reminder that success isn't always about moving faster, it's about moving forward with the right strategy, support, and confidence.

Highlights

  • Developed a cash-based Direct Primary Care and Functional Medicine practice in Northern California

  • Created comprehensive policies, procedures, and patient documentation

  • Implemented a phased launch strategy to build confidence and reduce risk

  • Combined in-person and telehealth services to create a flexible, patient-centered practice

From Hospital-Based NP to Entrepreneur

When Lauren (name changed for privacy) joined my coaching program, she had a clear vision for the practice she wanted to build but was navigating several important decisions before launching. As a hospital-based nurse practitioner in the Philadelphia area, she was ready to transition into entrepreneurship by creating a hybrid practice focused on primary care, weight management, and hormone optimization.

Unlike many outpatient providers, Lauren's clinical experience had been almost entirely hospital-based. While she was highly skilled as a clinician, building a private practice required learning an entirely new side of healthcare, from choosing a business model to developing a launch strategy that aligned with her long-term goals.

One of the biggest decisions we worked through was whether to build a cash-based practice, accept insurance, or create a hybrid model. Because she planned to obtain multiple state licenses and serve patients across the surrounding region through telehealth, it was important to carefully evaluate how each option would affect her growth, profitability, and patient experience. We spent time discussing the realities of insurance credentialing, particularly for weight management and hormone optimization, so she could make an informed decision that supported the practice she ultimately wanted to build.

By the end of our coaching sessions, Lauren had completed nearly every major step required to launch. With her business foundation in place, she is preparing to open her hybrid primary care and weight management practice, offering both telehealth and future in-person services while expanding across multiple states.

Lauren's story demonstrates that successful entrepreneurs don't simply jump into business ownership, they take the time to make thoughtful decisions that position them for long-term success. Sometimes the most valuable part of coaching is having an experienced guide to help you navigate complex choices with confidence.

Highlights

  • Building a hybrid primary care and weight management practice in Pennsylvania

  • Developing a multi-state telehealth strategy for future growth

  • Evaluated cash-pay, insurance, and hybrid business models to create the right long-term plan

  • Preparing for a confident practice launch with a strong business foundation

Turning Experience into a Thriving Practice

When Jessica (name changed for privacy) joined my coaching program, she was a nurse practitioner in New Jersey with a growing desire to build something of her own. She was working for a cash-based functional medicine pediatric practice, and every day she became more convinced that she could create an exceptional patient experience through her own business.

Jessica had the clinical expertise but wondered if she could make the transition to business ownership. Fortunately, she had an incredible support system. Her husband, an experienced entrepreneur with several successful businesses, encouraged her to invest in coaching so she could avoid years of trial and error and launch with a proven strategy.

Because New Jersey has unique regulations for nurse practitioner-owned practices, we spent time navigating the legal and operational requirements to ensure she had a solid foundation before opening her doors. Throughout our coaching, Jessica consistently showed up prepared, implemented each action step, and made remarkable progress. Even while balancing life as a new mom, wife, and healthcare provider, she never lost sight of her vision.

One of the things that impressed me most was how thoughtfully she had already developed her practice model. Her pricing, service packages, website, and branding were outstanding. My role was to review her plans, make strategic refinements, and provide the confidence and guidance she needed to move forward. It was incredibly rewarding to watch everything come together.

By the end of our coaching, Jessica had successfully launched her own functional medicine pediatric practice. Today, she has a beautiful brand, an impressive online presence, and a business built around delivering personalized, cash-based care to children and families. Watching her confidently step into practice ownership has been one of the highlights of my coaching journey.

Jessica's story is a reminder that success doesn't always come from starting with more, it comes from taking decisive action with the right guidance. With a clear roadmap, strong accountability, and a willingness to implement, she transformed a dream into a thriving reality.

Highlights

  • Successfully launched a cash-based functional medicine pediatric practice in New Jersey

  • Transitioned from employee to private practice owner

  • Navigated New Jersey's complex practice ownership requirements

  • Built a professional website, strong branding, and an effective social media presence

  • Developed premium pricing and service packages that positioned her practice for long-term success

Building a Practice One Step at a Time

When Diane (name changed for privacy) joined my coaching program, she was an experienced nurse practitioner in Arizona with a dream of creating her own wellness practice. Her vision was to help patients through hormone optimization and weight management while gaining the freedom to work for herself instead of continuing to build someone else's business.

At the time, Diane was traveling extensively in her role as a nurse practitioner and educator, balancing a demanding schedule while exploring what entrepreneurship could look like. Like many clinicians, she had the passion and expertise to start a practice but also experienced the uncertainty and fear that often accompany such a significant career transition.

Our coaching focused on creating a realistic, sustainable path toward business ownership. To keep startup costs manageable, Diane initially planned to launch with a telehealth model, allowing her to begin serving patients without the financial burden of opening a full clinic. Together, we worked through the business strategy, operational planning, and mindset shifts needed to move from employee to entrepreneur.

One of the things I admire most about Diane is her commitment to consistent progress. Rather than rushing the process, she took thoughtful, intentional steps to build a practice that aligned with her long-term goals. Over time, I've had the privilege of watching her continue to grow her business, expand her presence on social media, and reach more patients. Seeing her recently bring another nurse practitioner onto her team is a wonderful milestone and a testament to the steady growth of her practice.

Diane's journey is a reminder that success doesn't have to happen overnight. Building a thriving business is often the result of consistent action, smart decisions, and the willingness to keep moving forward—even when the path feels uncertain. Today, she's doing exactly what she set out to accomplish: creating a practice that reflects her vision while continuing to grow with confidence.

Highlights

  • Transitioned from traveling nurse practitioner and educator toward practice ownership

  • Built a wellness practice focused on hormone optimization and weight management

  • Started with a telehealth model to minimize overhead and support sustainable growth

  • Expanded her practice and welcomed another nurse practitioner to her team

  • Continues to grow her business through consistent marketing and patient-centered care

Expanding an Established Direct Primary Care Practice

When Michelle (name changed for privacy) and I began working together, she was already an established nurse practitioner and owner of a Direct Primary Care practice in Arizona.

Unlike many of my clients who are launching from the ground up, Michelle was looking for guidance on expanding her services and growing the next phase of her business.

Her vision was to integrate weight management, hormone optimization, and peptide therapies into her existing practice while continuing to provide high-quality primary care.

She was also exploring additional ways to expand her clinic, including bringing other healthcare professionals into her practice to create a more comprehensive patient experience.

Although our coaching relationship was shorter than many of my private coaching clients, we focused on the areas that would have the greatest impact.

We discussed strategies for incorporating cash-based wellness services, implementing weight management and hormone optimization programs, and understanding how peptide therapies could complement her existing practice model. We also worked through business strategy and practice growth while navigating the challenges of balancing an already busy clinical schedule.

Like many successful practice owners, Michelle wasn't lacking ideas, she was looking for clarity, guidance, and a trusted sounding board to help prioritize her next steps.

Our conversations focused on helping her confidently evaluate opportunities while building a practice that aligned with both her professional goals and the needs of her patients.

Michelle's story highlights an important truth about entrepreneurship: coaching isn't only valuable for new practice owners. Even experienced clinicians benefit from fresh perspectives, strategic planning, and expert guidance when they're ready to expand their services and take their practice to the next level.

Creating a Retirement Plan Through Practice Ownership

When Catherine (name changed for privacy) joined my coaching program, she had a unique vision for the next chapter of her career. As an experienced nurse practitioner in California, she wasn't looking to build a practice that she would run for decades. Instead, she wanted to create a Medicare-focused primary care practice that would serve as her transition into retirement over the next five to seven years.

At the time, Catherine was balancing multiple clinical positions, including telehealth and in-person roles, while planning her own private practice. Like many experienced clinicians, she had decades of healthcare knowledge but needed guidance navigating the business side of opening an independent practice, especially within California's complex regulatory environment.

Throughout our coaching, we focused on developing the operational framework needed to establish her clinic. Together, we worked through the planning process, business logistics, and the many decisions involved in opening a brick-and-mortar practice. While Catherine approached the process thoughtfully and at her own pace, she remained committed to building a strong foundation for the business she envisioned.

By the conclusion of our coaching, she had completed the key components needed to prepare for opening her practice, including establishing her physical office and creating the business infrastructure necessary to move forward. She left our coaching with a clear roadmap and the confidence to continue building the retirement-focused practice she had envisioned.

Catherine's story is a reminder that entrepreneurship isn't reserved for one stage of life. Whether you're early in your career or planning your next chapter, owning a practice can create flexibility, purpose, and financial independence. With the right guidance and a thoughtful plan, it's never too late to build something that's truly your own.

  • Established a brick-and-mortar office during the coaching process

Navigating Multi-State Practice Expansion

When Natalie (name changed for privacy) reached out to me, she already had a successful functional medicine practice in Colorado. As a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)-prepared nurse practitioner, she wasn't looking to learn how to start a business—she wanted guidance on expanding her existing practice into California.

Originally from California, Natalie hoped to continue serving patients there through telehealth while maintaining her Colorado practice. Like many healthcare entrepreneurs, she assumed the process would be relatively straightforward. However, California's complex legal and regulatory requirements for nurse practitioner-owned practices presented challenges that aren't always obvious until you begin the process.

During our strategy sessions, we evaluated her expansion plans, discussed California's evolving legal landscape, and developed the appropriate business structure to support her long-term goals. I also connected her with legal resources so she could continue navigating the state-specific requirements. While California ultimately proved more complicated than anticipated, having the right guidance early in the process helped her avoid costly mistakes and better understand the path forward.

One of the most rewarding aspects of working with Natalie was helping her gain clarity. In a single strategy session, we were able to establish the appropriate business entity online and create a roadmap for her next steps. We also explored alternative ways she could continue serving patients while working through California's unique regulatory requirements.

Natalie's story illustrates that entrepreneurship isn't only about starting a practice, it's also about expanding strategically. Every state has its own rules, and having an experienced advisor can save valuable time, money, and frustration when navigating unfamiliar territory.

Highlights

  • Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)-prepared nurse practitioner and established practice owner

  • Expanded planning for a multi-state functional medicine practice

  • Developed the appropriate business entity to support future growth

  • Navigated California's complex regulatory environment for nurse practitioner-owned practices

  • Received strategic guidance to avoid common legal and operational pitfalls during expansion

Finding Clarity Through Strategic Business Planning

When Karen (name changed for privacy) scheduled a strategy session with me, she was already an established nurse practitioner and owner of a weight management and hormone optimization practice in Florida. She had built a solid clinical foundation but wanted an experienced perspective on one of the most important aspects of any successful business, pricing and profitability.

Karen was balancing far more than just her practice. As the mother of a large family and the primary income earner in her household, she was also working travel nurse practitioner assignments while continuing to grow her business. With so many competing priorities, she wanted to be certain she was making smart financial decisions that would support her long-term goals.

During our strategy session, we completed a comprehensive review of her pricing structure, service offerings, and business model. We discussed how pricing should reflect the value of the care she provides while creating a practice that is both financially sustainable and rewarding. We also talked through future opportunities for growth, helping her prioritize the ideas that best aligned with her vision rather than trying to pursue every opportunity at once.

By the end of our session, Karen shared that she had significantly more clarity and confidence about the direction of her practice. She left with a better understanding of how to structure her services, evaluate pricing decisions, and focus on building a business that supported both her patients and her family. As her practice continues to evolve, she has reached out for additional guidance, something I always enjoy because business strategy isn't a one-time decision. As practices grow, regular refinement keeps them profitable and aligned with changing goals.

Karen's story is a reminder that even experienced practice owners benefit from having a trusted advisor. Sometimes one focused strategy session can provide the clarity needed to simplify decisions, strengthen a business, and move forward with renewed confidence.

Highlights

  • Established nurse practitioner and owner of a weight management and hormone optimization practice in Florida

  • Completed a comprehensive business strategy and pricing review

  • Gained clarity on pricing, profitability, and long-term business planning

  • Balanced entrepreneurship while raising a large family and working travel nurse practitioner assignments

  • Demonstrates the value of strategic coaching for experienced practice owners seeking greater focus and financial confidence

Refining an Established Wellness Practice

When Sophia (name changed for privacy) came to me, she was already an established nurse practitioner and owner of a brick-and-mortar aesthetics and IV therapy practice in New York. Unlike many of my coaching clients who were starting from the ground up, Sophia had an existing business and wanted guidance on increasing profitability, improving her marketing, and positioning her practice for future growth.

As we evaluated her business, one opportunity became immediately clear, her pricing strategy. Like many healthcare providers, she was significantly undervaluing her expertise and services. In addition, her treatment packages didn't fully encourage long-term patient relationships or recurring revenue, leaving considerable growth potential untapped.

Throughout our coaching, we focused on refining her pricing structure, strengthening her service packages, and improving her marketing strategy so her practice would better reflect the quality of care she was providing. Rather than rebuilding her business, our work centered on optimizing what she had already created and identifying practical opportunities for sustainable growth.

One of the valuable lessons from Sophia's coaching journey is that every successful business owner reaches a point where outside perspective becomes invaluable. Even experienced practice owners benefit from reviewing pricing, evaluating patient offerings, and ensuring their business strategy evolves alongside their practice. Growth isn't always about doing more, it's often about making smarter decisions with the business you've already built.

Sophia's story reflects the type of strategic coaching I provide for established practice owners. Whether you're launching your first practice or refining an existing one, having an experienced coach can help you identify opportunities that are difficult to see from inside your own business.

Highlights

  • Established nurse practitioner and owner of an aesthetics and IV therapy practice in New York

  • Refined pricing to better reflect the value of services provided

  • Improved treatment packaging to support patient retention and recurring revenue

  • Developed marketing strategies to strengthen business growth

  • Demonstrates how strategic coaching helps established practices optimize profitability and long-term success
